Latchford Hardware prices multi-door replacement work on existing openings from a door list: you send the door count, a photo of the hardware on one door, the handing, the finish, the fire rating and the ship-to address, and we specify the hardware set per opening and quote the whole job in one document. Prepaid, shipped direct to the site, with handing, finish and keying confirmed in writing before anything handed or keyed is ordered. Built for the 5 to 30 door refresh where most of the doors are the same.
One opening, six to ten line items
A door is not one part. The quote lists the full set for each opening and prices it as a set; you strike the lines the job does not need. Grade 1 where the door is a main entrance, a stairwell or high traffic; Grade 2 on lower traffic interior doors.
- Hinges. Ball bearing, NRP or continuous geared, matched to the existing door and frame prep. Most are special order, and the quote shows the lead time line by line.
- Lockset or exit device. A cylindrical or mortise lockset by ANSI function (F82 entrance, F84 classroom, F86 storeroom among them), matched to the existing door prep, or an exit device where the door carries one. Keyed alike across the whole job is available through the quote channel. Cut keys cannot be returned.
- Closer. Grade 1 or Grade 2 to the traffic, 689 aluminum by default or DURO dark bronze. Most closers and exit devices are special order, typically 4 to 6 weeks.
- Kick plate. 630 satin stainless as the default, or matched to the finish on the door.
- Threshold and seals where the door is exterior.
- Gasketing where the opening is fire or smoke rated.
- Electric strike or electrified lock where the door is on an access control system, specified fail safe or fail secure.
What happens after you send the list?
Three steps. The first is yours; the other two are ours.
- 1Send the door listThe door count. One photo of the existing hardware on a representative door and of the door it sits on, close enough to read any stamping. The handing of each door, the finish, which openings are fire rated, and the ship-to address. Email it to sales@latchfordhardware.com or attach it on the quote page.
- 2We spec and price itYou hear back within one business day, usually the same afternoon US Eastern, with any questions first. Then one quote for the whole job, opening by opening: part number, grade, finish and price on every line, and the lead time by line, so a factory-order hinge is not hidden behind a stocked lever.
- 3Approve and it shipsPrepaid, by card or by bank transfer through the quote. You confirm handing, finish and keying in writing and the order goes in. Orders placed and paid on a business day ship the same or next business day. Items held in different warehouses ship separately at no extra cost, and a factory-order line follows on its own lead time rather than holding the rest of the job.
Existing openings only
The edges, stated before the quote rather than after it.
- Not new construction. Replacement, retrofit and refresh on doors that already hang. If the frame is not in the wall yet, we are the wrong supplier.
- Not a door schedule read from drawings. We specify from photos of doors that exist, not from an architect’s hardware schedule or a set of plans.
- Not public or municipal bids. We do not respond to bid solicitations or tenders. A maintenance department buying a replacement set directly is a different thing, and that we do.
- No net terms. Every job is prepaid. Card is the default; bank transfer (ACH) is offered through the quote channel on larger orders. No account, no credit application, no minimum order.
- Larger jobs may ship in stages. Items held in different warehouses ship separately at no extra cost, and factory-order lines arrive on their own lead time, each shipment with its own tracking. Nothing ships to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or outside the United States.
- Fire-rated openings are flagged, not judged. A fire door needs positive latching, no mechanical dogging and a listed closer, and it is inspected annually under NFPA 80. Tell us which openings on the list are rated so the replacement is listed for that use. We sell listed hardware and confirm the specification in writing. We are not code consultants; your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) makes the final call.
What contractors ask before sending a list
Can you match the brand already on the doors?
Often, and we say plainly when we cannot. A replacement does not have to be the same brand to fit: we spec what fits the existing door prep and matches the finish already on it, and we tell you when the part is a different brand from the one that came out. The doors swing different ways. How do you handle mixed handing?
Per opening. Handing is read from the outside, the keyed or secure side: LH, RH, LHR or RHR, and exit devices live on reverse-hand doors. Many mortise locks, exit trims and keyed cylinders are handed at the factory and cannot be reversed in the field, so the door list carries a handing against every door and you confirm it in writing before those items ship. Non-handed items skip that step. The door handing chart shows how to call it from the outside of the door.
What if one door is different from the rest?
It gets its own specification and its own lines on the same quote. Send one photo of that door’s hardware as well. Eighteen identical doors and two odd ones are quoted as two or three specs, not as twenty separate doors. Once the job is priced, the specifications are kept on file for that property, so the next order for the same building does not start from scratch.
How is payment handled on a large job?
Prepaid, through the quote. Card is the default. Bank transfer (ACH) is offered on larger orders and clears in 4 to 6 business days, so it does not carry the 1 to 2 day ship promise; pay by card when the site date is tight. No net terms, no account, no credit application. No sales tax is added because we are not registered to collect in any state; your business may have its own use-tax obligations.
