Securitron M62 Maglock (Magnalock), 1,200 lb Holding Force

No reviews yet Write a review

The Securitron M62 is a 1,200 lb electromagnetic lock (maglock) for a single door, or a gate with the G option. It runs on 12 or 24 V DC, sensing the voltage itself, and draws 250 mA at 12 V or 150 mA at 24 V. It holds only while powered, so the door releases when power is cut.

Which Securitron M62 part number do I need?

The standard M62 suits an out-swinging single door; an in-swinging door needs the face drilled M62F on a ZA Z-bracket, and a gate needs a G version.

Will the Securitron M62 fit my door?

The standard M62 fits an out-swinging single door, fixed to the frame head at the latch side; brackets adapt it to in-swinging doors, blade stops, wood or concrete-filled frames and glass doors.

Out-swinging door

The standard M62 fixes to the frame head near the latch side, with the armature bolted through the door. It needs 2-1/2 in of flat mounting space; with a narrower stop, a stop filler plate (SFP), header bracket (UHB) or spacer bracket (ASB-62) makes up the difference.

In-swinging door

Use a face drilled (F) M62 on a ZA-32/62 Z-bracket (black, clear or satin stainless), sold separately.

Blade stop in the way

An ASB-62 spacer bracket lowers the magnet below the stop.

Wood or concrete-filled frame

A CWB-62 bracket is made for wood and concrete-filled frames and hides the wiring.

Glass close to the door edge

The offset strike (M62-OS, or the AOS-62 plate) moves the mounting hole 1/4 in to clear the glass on aluminum storefront doors.

Door thicker than 1-3/4 in

The TDK-1 thick door kit covers doors up to 3 in.

Pair of doors

One M62 per leaf. A single M62 with a split strike (the SS option or the ASS-62 set) holds a pair only at traffic-control force, in Securitron's own words, and split strikes do not work with D versions.

Solid glass door

A GDB strike bracket carries the armature on the glass, fixed with the AKG adhesive kit because glass cannot be drilled, and an HEB-3G bracket mounts the magnet on an all-glass header.

Replacing a failed M62

Tell us first. Securitron's MagnaCare warranty replaces a failed Magnalock for any reason, and we open the claim with the invoice. To change to a different lock, send a photo of the magnet, its bracket and the frame head.

Power

A regulated 12 or 24 V DC supply sized for every device on it, with the wire gauge set by total current and run length. DC only: full-wave rectified, with the output isolated from earth ground. AC or half-wave power will not run it.

Code decisions belong to the AHJ

Electrified locks on a door people exit through are covered by building and fire codes. Whether this maglock may go on your door, and what release devices it needs, is decided by your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). We supply listed hardware and confirm in writing the part number and options you have chosen; we do not decide code compliance.

What else does the Securitron M62 need?

On an out-swinging door the M62 needs no bracket, only a power supply and a way to release the door; the brackets below solve a door or frame the standard M62 does not fit.

Part numbers from Securitron's data sheet (AADSS1204562) and accessory sheets (AADSS1058181, AADSS1058608); the -8 brackets suit the 8 in M62 magnet. Securitron also makes a TDK-1 thick door kit and an EASB-62 energy absorbing sex bolt; neither is in our distributors' files today, so ask and we check. Every accessory is quoted with the lock, and we confirm the fit in writing.

Questions about the Securitron M62 Magnalock

Is the Securitron M62 fail safe or fail secure?

The Securitron M62 is fail safe. A maglock holds only while current flows, so cutting power releases the door, and Securitron's instant release circuit leaves no residual magnetism holding the armature. If the door must stay locked through a power cut, a fail secure electric strike is the usual alternative.

Does the M62 run on 12 V or 24 V?

The M62 runs on both 12 V and 24 V DC. It senses the supply voltage and sets itself, with nothing to adjust. It draws 250 mA at 12 V DC and 150 mA at 24 V DC.

What is the difference between the M62, M62F and M62FG?

They differ in mounting. The standard M62 bolts to the frame with collapsing blind nuts. The F version is face drilled for a bracket, such as the ZA Z-bracket on an in-swinging door. The G version adds a conduit fitting for gates, where the cable runs in conduit.

What do the B and D options on an M62 do?

B and D both report to an access control or alarm system. B (BondSTAT) senses whether the magnet has a full bond with the armature, so it reports the door as actually secured. D is a door position switch that reports whether the door is closed. BD has both.

Does the M62 come with a power supply?

No, the M62 does not include a power supply. It needs a separate regulated 12 or 24 V DC supply and a way to release the door, such as a push button or a request-to-exit sensor. Tell us what is on the door and we quote the parts together.

Can a maglock go on an exit or fire-rated door?

Securitron's UL 10C certificate lists the M62 with B, D, BD or F suffixes for fire doors rated up to 3 hours, and G versions up to 1 hour. A maglock does not latch, though, and a fire-rated door still needs its listed latching hardware. Whether a maglock may be used on a particular exit or fire door, and which release devices it then needs, is decided by your local code official, the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Ask them before you order.

What if an M62 fails?

Tell us first. Securitron's MagnaCare lifetime warranty replaces a failed maglock for any reason, including installation error, usually shipped next day at Securitron's expense. Securitron issues a Customer Care Form before anything is returned and may ask for the original invoice, so we open the claim for you. If the fault is the power supply rather than the lock, the warranty will not fix it, and we can quote the supply.

How does the M62 compare with the M32 and M82?

By holding force and size. The M62 holds 1,200 lb with an 8 x 3 x 1-3/4 in magnet and is BHMA Grade 2. The M32 holds 600 lb in a slimmer 8 x 1-7/8 x 1-5/8 in body, is Grade 3, and Securitron describes it for traffic control inside a secured perimeter. The M82 holds 1,800 lb with a 12 x 3 x 1-3/4 in magnet, is Grade 1, and is meant for high-risk doors. This page covers the M62; ask us for the M32 or M82.
